On a hot, hot summer day, I ventured to downtown Pittsburgh with Erica and Nick. It was the open house at the new Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, home of the Pittsburgh Penguins, so we hoped to get a few shots with it in the background. It proved to be a little challenge, as the building is super new and signage is limited to, well, you can see it up there, about a hundred feet in the air!

We did a few different combinations, with at one point, Nick and Erica jumping off a concrete bench to get them closer.

They are hugely dedicated Pittsburgh Penguin fans, sporting long sleeve black jerseys on a day that the temperature pushed ninety-five degrees. 🙂 The theme of their engagement session was “A Tour of Pittsburgh” and we wanted to go to spots that were special to them and their relationship. They have a ton of little surprises planned for their May wedding next year to represent that, but I won’t give any of them away here in case their guests are reading!

Erica and Nick both were attending my old grad school alma mater, RMU, right outside of Pittsburgh when they met and started dating. But, they didn’t meet at school like I had previously thought. No, Nick told me that they met in a “dive bar” (his words, not mine) near campus and jokingly suggested we should stop there for a few photos.

We headed up to the university, winding our way from Mellon Arena through beautiful Sewickley and drove onto campus. Erica and I have some fond memories of RMU, where we did, in fact, meet. (We met on campus, not at the aforementioned dive bar, although I’m pretty sure we celebrated our last day of class once at Primanti’s up there!) I really bonded with Erica during our teaching boot camp we went through a couple years ago, so I was so thrilled when she asked me to photograph her engagement and wedding. It is an honor.

And big shout out to my fellow teaching boot-camp survivor, Liz, if she’s reading this! 🙂

I got to know what a sweet person Erica is while we were in an intense situation and she always, always stayed sweet, polite, realistic, funny, and nice, even under extreme pressure. That’s why she’s a great teacher now. Those qualities are why I know that she is going to be an amazing wife and life partner for Nick.

So not only is she super sweet and nice, she could also diagram this sentence for me if I asked her to! 🙂

Nick is a super funny guy that put up with a lot on a hot sunny day to get these images for Erica, so thanks so much, Nick! I’m pretty sure his favorite part was our fun at Consol and the old Mellon Arena.

As the sun started to set, we headed to Pittsburgh’s Riverwalk and got a little bit refreshed in the fountain. The cool water felt amazing on such a hot day to all of us, so after capturing this last image, we packed up the car and called it a night before the sun dipped too low in the sky.

Congrats to both of you on your engagement! I can’t wait until your big “I Do’s” in May! 🙂

Eric and Sherina are a super laid-back, easygoing couple that laughed along with me throughout their session, even when I asked them to jump around on an outdoor beach bed!

On a hot day, we went over to check out her wedding venue, the Don CeSar resort, over in St. Pete and do her engagement session in the meantime.

I absolutely love the color turquoise in jewelry and I love it when brides wear a dress for their engagement sessions, especially a white dress. (I might be biased because I wore a white dress for my own engagement session). It just adds a little bridal touch.

Sherina told me that she and Eric had both been working out a lot and getting fit, and it definitely shows with their confidence in the photos! 🙂

The Don Cesar is really unique, with a vintage feel to it. The staff couldn’t be nicer, and they were even able to get this outside deck opened up for us where my favorite images from the session came from.

Another thing that was interesting is that the Don CeSar is rumored to be haunted. Sherina and Eric told me about lights mysteriously going on and off on some of the staff. The building even held a morgue at one time. And then we kept not being able to open doors to the outside; several were stuck shut when we tried. Was it something spooky? (Or were they just swollen from the difference between air conditioning and the humid outdoor weather?)

I had such an awesome time with Sherina and Eric and can’t wait until their wedding. I know it is going to be gorgeous!

I met up with Amie and Anthony in beautiful Tradition, a town within a town in Port St. Lucie. It turns out, Anthony’s sister was married under the gazebo in this perfectly landscaped community.

It was hot outside, but thankfully, it cooled off as the sun set. The shop owners in Tradition were very accommodating when we used their couches, candy shop, and even bicycles as props for our shoot.

Amie is a teacher, so we had that in common. And while we were out shooting, we saw a few young couples going to their prom. My goodness, time flies! Amie remarked that just six years ago, she was going to the prom! 😉

We avoided any of the cheesy prom-style poses and instead found this classic car parked in the downtown center. I just loved the color of it and wanted to use it to showcase Amie’s ring.

I love when women wear a dress and heels for their session because I think it really shows a feminine side and looks classic. You can’t beat a black dress for a timeless look!

Amie and Anthony will be getting married in just six short months! Enjoy every second of the planning! 🙂

Recently, one of my clients told me she checks my blog for updates frequently. I realized then how far behind on my blogging I am! 🙂

So, it is time to catch up with Dori and Brent. We met up in beautiful downtown Celebration, Florida for their engagement session.

Celebration is the perfect photo shoot spot because of its quaint look, essentially a small town with a Main Street and a look that is uniquely northern here in Florida.

Brent owns his own business; Dori works in a school. I was feeling really into the black and white shots for this session!

They are planning a destination wedding in the Florida Keys this fall. They chose to get married in the Florida Keys because they enjoy vacationing there every summer together.

Destination weddings are always so fun! Hope you love your engagement photos as much as I do!

Once upon a time, I was a high school teacher. I don’t know if many of my clients know that, but I loved teaching.

Something else you may not know about me…I met my husband in fifth grade homeroom!

So therefore, I have always wanted to do a photo shoot in a school.

Enter Sarah and Chris. They met in high school. They got engaged years later. And they have all the right connections, so we traveled back to their old high school near Tampa for some engagement photos.
The school staff was great about letting us use the place, and the shots are some of my favorite to date.

We incorporated the classroom where they met and their love of soccer from their high school days, as well as using an abandoned bus and a ton of other great stuff.

Sarah’s feeling a little under the weather right now, so if you leave some comments for her, I’m sure it will cheer her up! 🙂

When I was a teacher, we certainly didn’t let the students do things like this! 🙂
This photo shoot was a once in a lifetime opportunity, so thank you two for the incredible chance to make this shoot happen. You two are an incredibly comfortable and relaxed couple; I had so much fun working with you and I love all your unique ideas for your big day! 🙂
Why not make your engagement photos special and do them where you met your future spouse, be it school, a bar, the park, at a party, work, wherever! Tell the story of how you met with your photographs!

I love, love, love my job. When I meet people like Tina and Bobby on the job, it makes my job that much better.

You’ll remember Tina and Bobby from their engagement shoot: Engaged!

They got married at sunset on March 6th on Manasota Beach on Florida’s west coast. Here’s the story of their day:Tina discovered her curling iron wasn’t working that morning, so her plans to DIY her hair went out the window. She and the bridesmaids made a last minute trip to a few hair salons and finally found one that could take them! 🙂 The hair was saved and everything went along smoothly from there on out!
She wasn’t a big fan of the hairspray!

Tina also rolled with the punches when her son didn’t want his photo taken, but don’t worry, he warmed up to the camera and we got some VERY sweet shots of him.

Bridesmaid Aimee was a pro at helping out as well!

After the ladies got ready, I met up with Bobby and his groomsmen at the beach. They were willing to try out any creative ideas I threw out there.
The ceremony was short and sweet and a few tears were shed by both the bride and groom.

The wind was brutal on the sand, so Tina was again a super flexible bride; we moved to an area overlooking the beach. We got some great formals and of course, some not-so-formals, which are always the most fun.

We finished up back at Bobby’s parents’ home, where the food was delicious and everyone had a great time. Tina’s decorating vision really came to life!

It was great to meet such a wonderful couple! Enjoy your new home and your life together! 🙂

I just want to say a great big THANK YOU to Lynn and Chris for the chance to shoot over at Disney Boardwalk. I’ve been wanting to do a shoot there since before I even moved to Florida and launched KWP (Kristen Wynn Photography), so it was so great of you two to come out to my neck of the woods for a shoot.

We had a ton of fun and Boardwalk is just gorgeous.

The day was a bit chilly, but we made it through and luckily, it warmed up a bit by the afternoon.

Also, Lynn’s shoes and dress were really cute and made for a great twirling photo.

I can’t wait to shoot your wedding on July 3rd! We’re going to have so much fun! 🙂

I met Tina and Bobby over on Florida’s West Coast for their engagement photos. And not a moment too soon, since their wedding is less than a few weeks away!

The location was Gasparilla Island Lighthouse Museum. The idea was all Tina’s, and it was a great place to shoot. The West Coast is really beautiful with the color of the water in the Gulf.

Then, Tina came up with the idea for this shot, which I thought was really neat and something new for me. I can’t wait to see some of Tina’s ideas for the wedding photos as well; I just love her style.

We had a ton of fun laughing. I’m so glad I got to know such a cool couple before their wedding day.

And, they were able to pull off this shot without their fingers falling asleep, so that was pretty impressive too!
See you two in just a few weeks for the big I DO’s!

Last April, I did my first Florida photo shoot. I thought I would take some time and feature my first Florida customers here!

We’re back from our honeymoon! 🙂 Recap to come later with photos!

In the days before we left, I shot Jessica and Marc’s engagement photos, processed, and edited them, then shipped them off. They sent me a very nice note while I was on my trip saying that they liked the work, so I was happy. It was great to meet such a nice couple. These photos were all shot up in Cocoa at the beach parks up there on I Dream of Jeannie Drive. That street name makes me smile!

Anyway, I shot 375+, but here are some that I thought were the best of the bunch.

Here’s yet another look back to my second shoot, back in 2008. All my original text is in italics.
Last weekend, I shot the engagement photos of an acquaintance from high school (McKeesport, of course, notice the sign? lol). It was nice to meet her fiance and hear what she’s been up to the past five years.

Sarah actually met her fiance at work at GE…pronounced lovingly by those of us in PGH as “GineIggle.” Therefore, I found this photo totally fitting their story:

Anyway, it was bitterly, bitterly cold, but they were troopers. And the snow ended up as a light dusting, which made the scene very Christmasy!

Here are just a few of my favorites of the 319 shots they are getting for engagement pictures and as Christmas gifts for their parents.

As a side note, I have noticed that my favorite shots aren’t necessarily photos that the couples want. Sometimes, shots I really dislike will be their favorites and vice-versa, which is what makes photography so great. It is so subjective; there’s something for everyone!

Their wedding is in June…six short months away. Time flies, as they told me they have already been engaged for almost a year, and it has gone by so quickly. I’m just 2.5 months away, and I can barely believe it! 🙂

This couple has now been married for more than 6 months and are loving it! Time flies! Sharing my early work makes me a bit nervous, but it is important to see where I am coming from, where I am improving, and where I am headed to with my style.
