Lisa and Nate met during a summer internship at Caterpillar in Illinois in 2014. After the summer was over, the couple decided to try long distance. While long distance, Lisa and Nate both liked to travel and would often meet up in other cities. At one point, Nate was living in Michigan and Lisa was in Dubai. More international travel dates continued as the two made long distance work. Eventually Nate moved to Pittsburgh for work and during a visit, Lisa fell in love with the city. Lisa moved to Pittsburgh where they both now work for self-driving Uber.

Lisa and Nate describe themselves as “dorky” – they enjoy traveling, board games and date nights. They made their own save the dates – Pokemon themed! Their rings were also carried down the aisle in a Pokemon ball instead of the traditional ring box. Lisa had her bouquet made out of book pages – specifically Harry Potter books. Lisa gave Nate a hankie that once belonged to her grandmother – their wedding day would have been her 94th birthday.

Lisa and Nate love the outdoors and chose to get married outside at Riverview Park. Lisa and Nate shared a “first touch” prior to the ceremony. At 1:59PM, as Lisa was about to walk down the aisle, it started to rain! The guests each picked up their chairs and ran to the covered tent. After a very short delay, the bride and groom made it to the tent with their umbrellas and the guests all clapped. Although it was pouring by this time, Lisa and Nate were smiling the whole time. The officiant apologized for having to “yell” during the ceremony over the heavy downpour.

Lisa and Nate’s reception was very laid-back – they had the guests build their own centerpieces with legos, they had a table of board games to play, their dinner was pizza from a food truck and dessert was Rita’s Italian Ice (and of course a cookie table since this is Pittsburgh!).

It only rained during the ceremony and the couple were able to have their portraits taken throughout the park. Lisa and Nate love nature and green spaces so it was easy to find some great spots! The couple shared their first dance to “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” and had a sparkler send-off.

Note to the couple:
